From book talks and signings to writing conferences and workshops to book clubs and retreats, here are just some of the places you can find me throughout the year. If you see me anywhere, I hope you’ll introduce yourself! I love meeting readers and writers, talking about books, and sharing whatever wisdom I can to help aspiring writers along the way. Check back every so often as new events are added.

Talk – The Peculiar Joy of the Printed Book
6:00pm @ City of East Tawas Library, 760 Newman St, East Tawas, MI 48730

Whether you read on your phone, with an e-reader, listen to audio books, or turn actual pages with your fingers, I’m happy you’re reading. But there are qualities and characteristics of the printed book that make it a form I believe will never entirely disappear. In this talk, I take book lovers on a journey through the history of the printed book—the novel in particular—discussing how books as artifacts can teach us about ourselves and our history, and offering warnings about what we lose when we switch to digital.

Women’s Fiction Writers Association 5th Annual Writers Retreat
@ Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Pairing her inspiring speaking style with practical interactive lessons and activities, novelist, speaker, and journalist Nicole Blades will help attendees find strength and encouragement from our own writing communities; expand our single-lens perspectives to develop empathy, compassion, and understanding that will power our stories, engage our audience, and attract a loyal readership; and use rejection to fuel our work instead of our doubts.

Talk – Grappling with History through Fiction
6:00pm @ Romulus Public Library, 11121 Wayne Road, Romulus, MI 48174

Fiction is not simply an escape into another world. Some of our greatest social movements and achievements have been inspired or sustained by fiction. Novels have been instrumental in exposing injustice, raising moral questions, and suggesting solutions to crises. Join this lively discussion about the part fiction can play in our interior lives and in the life of our nation and world if we as readers take its lessons to heart.
